At the Evaluating Impact Conference, I had the incredible opportunity to meet Gerry Brooks, a well-known figure in education. We discussed the importance of recognizing that every student who walks into the classroom is someone’s child — and how that understanding should shape the way we respond to students, even when they are struggling or acting out.
Gerry also shared insights on creating a positive school climate and fostering academic growth. He emphasized the importance of building strong relationships with students, encouraging collaboration among teachers, and implementing strategies to support student success both academically and emotionally. This experience reinforced the importance of balancing high expectations with empathy and understanding in the classroom.
